Review the checklist in order to make sure your bike is ABA safe & race ready: (see fig 1)
  1. Make sure all bolts are tight - especially your axle bolts and stem bolts.
  2. All reflectors and freestyle pegs must be removed for safety purposes.
  3. If your bike has a kickstand, it must be taken off.
  4. Your bike can not have a chain guard.
NOTE: If you need assistance prepairing your bike for the track, we will help. Just bring your bike with you, we have all the tools we need to get you ready.

Proper clothing:
The checklist indicates what you will need to wear in order to be on the track. When you first start out racing BMX, think cheap. You don't need a fancy uniform - jeans and a long sleeve shirt will do.

  2. Long pants.
  3. A helmet. We have "loaner" helmets for beginners to use.
  4. Any tennis shoe is sufficient.
Note: Short sleeves are acceptable with elbow pads.

Your First Race:
Get to the track early, an hour before the race and go straight to the registration desk.   (Check calendar for race/event dates.)

First, you need to become a member of USABMX. Becoming a member is easy, you can sign up on your first day of racing, you just need a copy of your birth certificate or an ID. Your first race is free with the ABA One Day membership.  Just download and fill out the membership form and bring it with you to the track.  You can also download our full membership app, brochure and 2011 Rule Book here.
One of our volunteers will provide you with the membership information when you arrive.

  •  First-time racers are able to purchase a temporary membership for $25, which is good for 30 days.
  • A "Temp" provides you with USABMXs secondary insurance and enables you to go out on the track.
  • A full one year membership costs $45 for the 1st family member, $40 for the second, $35 for the third
  • If you are under 18 you will need a parent or guardian signature.
Once you are signed up, you will get an USABMX number and a temporary number plate. The race fee each Saturday is $15 for class / $5 for open.

Next:

Check your moto and lane assignments on the moto board.  When the motos are posted, head to the motoboard.   Find the sheet with your age class and proficiency (you will most likely be a novice).  You will see your moto number at the top of the sheet and next to your name will be your lane assignments for each of the three races.  It’s a good idea to write these down on a piece of tape and stick it to your bike so you don’t forget.

When the motos are announced head to the start gate
When the starter calls your moto to the gate, get in your lane and you're ready to go.

Good luck and have fun!
Remember, everyone at the track is happy to assist you if you need any help.
